Otherworldly by Nicua Shamira

Collection of four short stories with fantasty, romance, futuristic and adventure themes.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. This is 4 short stories across certain myths and legends which I felt compelled to read.

When I started reading it, I wasn't sure on where the short stories was going. But as I started reading each 1, they opened up my mind to all that is out there. To the authors imagination of what she sees in her mind's eye when she writes.

I found a couple of the shorts really imaginative with how she portrays the Myths and Legends of some of these fairies and other people who we can't see.

A really good short stories book.

Endless - Amanda Gray

Jenny Kramer knows she isn’t normal. After all, not everybody can see the past lives of people around them. When she befriends Ben Daulton, resident new boy, the pair stumbles on an old music box with instructions for “mesmerization” and discover they may have more in common than they thought.

Like a past life.

Using the instructions in the music box, Ben and Jenny share a dream that transports them to Romanov Russia and leads them to believe they have been there together before. But they weren’t alone. Nikolai, the mysterious young man Jenny has been seeing in her own dreams was there, too. When Nikolai appears next door, Jenny is forced to acknowledge that he has traveled through time and space to find her. Doing so means he has defied the laws of time, and the Order, an ominous organization tasked with keeping people in the correct time, is determined to send him back. While Ben, Jenny and Nikolai race against the clock—and the Order—the trio discovers a link that joins them in life—and beyond death.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

My first opinion of this book was the cover was a lovely choice for what the synopsis was for it. I found the book very easy to start with, but as I got further into the book, I found it not quite what I was expecting. I am not usually into Time Travelling kind of books as I wasn't keen on The Time Traveller's Wife.

All in all, a good story, but just not for me.

Making of the Lamb - Robert Harley Bear

The Making of the Lamb gives new meaning to the words of William Blake, sung throughout Britain today in the "Jerusalem Hymn." This novel more than brings to life the ancient legend that Jesus Christ visited England during his formative years, which are missing from the Bible. We meet young Jesus as he is teaching in the Jerusalem Temple at the age of twelve. He is aware that he is the son of God, but he is still an unfinished work, growing in wisdom and the favor of God and man. In Britain, he gains power and renown among the native iron-age Celts as he prepares himself for a heroic destiny. One night, atop what is now the Glastonbury Tor, Jesus must confront his true fate of the suffering servant who will die the most shameful and painful of deaths imaginable at an early age. The fate of all of God's creation hangs in the balance as Jesus decides what path his life will take.

I was asked to review this by Netgalley. I don't think it's to my taste of fiction with the Christian side of the book. I appreciate what the author is trying to say, but in my opinion I wouldn't be able to get on with this novel.

Fall For You (The Jane Austen Academy Series #1) by Cecilia Gray

Dive into the fabulous, fun lives of six Academy girls as their friendships are tested, torn and ultimately triumph…

To say Lizzie and Dante are polar opposites is the understatement of the century. He’s a snooty Exeter transfer with more money than Google. She’s a driven study-a-holic just barely keeping up with tuition. It’s obvious that Dante thinks he’s way too good for Lizzie. And Lizzie knows Dante is a snob with a gift for pressing her buttons.

But things are changing fast this year at the Academy. And when Lizzie’s quest to stop those changes blows up in her face, taking her oldest friendship with it, she has nowhere else to turn but to Dante, with his killer blue eyes, his crazy-sexy smile, and his secrets… Secrets Lizzie can’t seem to leave alone, no matter how hard she tries…

* * *

The last thing that the girls at the elite Jane Austen Academy need is hot guys to flirt with. But over the summer the school has been sold, and like it or not, the guys are coming. And it’s about to turn the Academy—and the lives of its students—totally upside down…

The Jane Austen Academy series are modern retellings of Jane Austen classics set at a beachside California boarding school. Don't miss the rest of the Jane Austen Academy series, where sassy girls, hot guys and Jane Austen collide!

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. I don't usually like classics, but with this book I wasn't sure whether a classic could be re-written to bring in the YA crowd. I found this book to be really well written, nicely placed with the characters. I loved Lizzie's enthusiasm and passion for her newspaper. Wasn't keen on Dante to start off with, but his character kinda grew on me. A really good read in my opinion.

Grime and Punishment (The Brothers Grime #1) - Z.A. Maxfield

Grime and Punishment The Brothers Grime is Jack Masterson's way of helping people in crisis after disability ends his career as a firefighter. Jack's people get to a scene long after the physical trauma ends. They don't solve crime or rescue the victims. They help people move on. The new job is all Jack wants or needs, until he gets the call about old flame Nick Foasberg's suicide.

Ryan Halloran's cousin Nick has been on a downhill slide for a long time. Despite that, Ryan does everything he knows to help. Ryan only understands part of what happened between Nick and Jack in high school, but after Nick's suicide, Ryan agrees both he and Jack need closure. They work together to clean the scene and despite the situation, heat flares between them.

Jack is keeping a painful secret and fighting his attraction to Nick's lookalike cousin, Ryan. Ryan calls himself a magnet for lost causes and worries Jack might be the next in a long line of losers. Despite his misgivings, despite the past and the mistakes they've both made, Jack gives Ryan something to look forward to, and Ryan gives Jack a reason to stop looking back, in Grime And Punishment.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. When I 1st started to read it, I wasn't sure how the storyline was going to go. I loved the way Ryan and Jack got together, I can understand the way the characters went through all their problems. Family and friends matter, but sometimes LOVE does find a way to a mend a broken heart.

Every girl sees her thirtieth birthday as a milestone, but in Adara Berros's case, her entire life has turned upside-down. She may not know it, but Adara is actually the reincarnation of Greek mythology's Adonis. And she's about to be drawn into a centuries-old game between the gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus, with her eternal love as the grand prize.

Detective Shane Griffin senses trouble when he investigates an accident involving Adara and a mysterious stranger named Ted. Having lost his sister to domestic abuse, Shane suspects Ted is not the charming guy he appears to be. After he discovers Adara is the key witness for a murder trial, Shane vows to put his life and career on the line to protect her.

When Adara's life is threatened, she and Shane go on the run. Now, mortals and immortals alike are all...

...Chasing Adonis.

I liked the story to the extent that it was a lovely love story with mythological characters in. I wasn't sure of the storyline at times, but in the end it came through and was a good story with some twists and turns.
